Video Project Story Points
Motion Pictures are moving IMAGES and SOUNDS, which you should use to tell a story and show us something. Think artistically: vision - images - sounds - music - CREATE.
The ideas will follow the images.
Shoot images that represent beauty - reality - nature
- people - life.
Shoot images that evoke EMOTIONS in the viewer.
This video should emphasize the images of the locations, and because of the richness of John Steinbeck’s works, getting this video to be about Steinbeck, will naturally flow. To strengthen the connection between the images and Steinbeck, you could for example, add voice-over audio from people who are knowledgeable about John Steinbeck.
Some other ideas to ponder:
Can you compare the Monterey and Salinas from the Steinbeck era to that of today and make connections?
How do you think these environments influenced Steinbeck’s works?
What about the tour locations is new to you?
Is Steinbeck “a coast man or a valley man,” (Shellinglaw, 2006) or both?
What are differences and similarities between the Salinas and Monterey Steinbeck locations and/or people?
What aspects/parts of the site would increase the public’s interest in John Steinbeck?
How could you get your peers to come and see Steinbeck sites for themselves?
What is unique about the site and how would you craft a sense of place using audio and video images?
How, if at all, are our lives in Monterey and Salinas, shaped by our local environment and community heritage?
